Brooklyn Innovation Portal (BIP)
The Brooklyn Innovation Portal (BIP), formerly known as the Dynamic Engagement Portal (DEP), is a new digital initiative by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) to empower artists, foster community engagement, and drive social innovation in Brooklyn. By leveraging technology and community activation strategies, the BIP aims to create a thriving ecosystem that supports, connects, and engages artists, organizations, businesses, and citizens in shaping the creative future of Brooklyn.
The primary goals of the BIP are:
1) Empowering artists by providing access to resources, opportunities, and networks.
2) Fostering community engagement by connecting artists, organizations, and citizens.
3) Enhancing BAC's impact and sustainability by attracting funding opportunities and strengthening organizational capacity.
Phase 1 of the BIP is a prototype that serves as a testbed for key features, user experience, and data collection. The steps involved in this phase included:
1) Defining the core features and functionalities based on the insights gathered from previous research and community engagement
2) Developing a minimum viable product (MVP), incorporating essential features such as artist profiles, opportunity listings, and basic social connectivity
3) Conducting user testing both internally with staff and externally with a selected group of artists, community organizations, and other stakeholders to gather feedback on the prototype's usability, functionality, and overall user experience.
4) Refine the prototype based on feedback, preparing it for further development.
My Role:
Shipped Phase 1 of the BIP — Stepped in to lead the direction and development of the platform after the departure of BAC’s Programs Director.
Guided UX/UI design and ensured seamless alignment of the BIP with BAC’s brand and mission.
Utilized platforms including Figma, Jira, and Trello for project management and cross-collaboration with external parties.
During the planning phase, worked alongside BAC’s Programs team to develop messaging for BIP-related open calls.
Strategized, planned, and executed all digital marketing and communications including social media posts, email blasts, and a dedicated webpage.
Designed graphics for email and social media.
